Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to the Batsmanluno support center. We understand that your musical instrument is more than just a tool—it is an extension of your artistic identity and a precision piece of engineering. To help you plan your visit to our Graz workshop, we have compiled the most common questions from our clients across Styria and beyond. If you have a specific technical query regarding your instrument, please reach out to us directly via our contact page.
All conditions mentioned in these answers are based on our current business policies. Please note that for detailed legal obligations, our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy are the binding documents.
Intake and Diagnostics
When you drop off your instrument at our workshop at Jakominiplatz, we perform a comprehensive visual and functional inspection. We check the structural integrity, the correct alignment of components, and identify any defects or wear and tear. This initial diagnosis serves to determine the exact scope of the necessary work required to bring the instrument to optimal playing condition.
No, the initial diagnosis at Batsmanluno is free of charge for our customers. We believe in providing a transparent foundation for your decision regarding repair or maintenance without imposing costs at the very first consultation.
We strongly recommend scheduling an appointment to avoid waiting times and to ensure that the specific master luthier for your instrument (e.g., wind instrument or bowed string specialist) is available. You can easily arrange this through the form on our contact page.
Please bring the original certificate or proof of purchase if available. This is especially critical for historical instruments or those made from protected woods (CITES). We are legally prohibited from performing work on materials such as Brazilian rosewood or ivory without the corresponding documentation.
Yes, we regularly collaborate with music schools, conservatories, and orchestras in Graz. For institutional clients, we offer structured maintenance intervals to ensure the entire instrument fleet remains in peak playing condition.
Timelines and Processes
The average adjustment time in our workshop is approximately 5 days. This period includes precise calibration, necessary resting phases for the materials (particularly for wood), and a final quality check by our master luthiers.
After the diagnosis, you will receive a confirmation of the planned workflow. For complex projects such as full fret replacement or custom instrument builds, we inform you about reached milestones. Upon request, we can send progress photos of the work in stages.
Should unforeseen complications arise (e.g., hidden cracks in the body discovered during disassembly), we will notify you immediately. We will adjust the timeline and agree on a new delivery date with you before proceeding with any additional steps.
Due to our high quality standards and the necessary drying or setting times for glues and varnishes, we do not offer a standardized express service. We kindly ask you to plan your workshop visit well in advance of important concerts.
We will contact you via email or telephone as soon as the quality inspection is complete and your instrument is ready for collection.
Pricing and Estimates
Our prices are based on the complexity of the work, the time required, and the materials used. In our services section, you will find flat rates for standard setups as well as individual prices for specific tasks. All listed prices include the statutory VAT of 20%.
Yes, this is a core part of our process. Following the free diagnosis, we create a detailed estimate (Smeta). We only begin the work once you have explicitly confirmed this estimate.
If necessary additional measures become apparent during the work that were not detectable during the initial diagnosis, we pause the process and contact you for a new agreement. We do not perform any paid additional work without your prior consent.
We support the next generation of musicians. Please mention your student status when dropping off your instrument to discuss possible options for students.
For our business clients and institutions, a payment term of 30 days from the date of invoice applies. Private customers typically settle the invoice upon collection of the instrument.
Warranty and Aftercare
Yes, we provide a 6-month warranty on our craftsmanship. This warranty refers to the executed work (e.g., the stability of a set fret), but does not cover general wear and tear of the instrument or damage caused by improper handling.
An instrument setup is an individual adjustment. If you find after the first few hours of playing that the string height or action does not meet your preferences, we invite you for a free fine-tuning adjustment.
Together with your instrument, you will receive a detailed work report. This documents all steps taken, the materials used, and contains specific recommendations for the further care of your instrument.
Absolutely. We are happy to advise you personally during collection. Additionally, you can find detailed guides in our knowledge base, such as care during seasonal changes, to optimize the intervals between workshop visits.
Storage and Security
The security of your instrument is our highest priority. We maintain continuous climate control in our workshop, keeping humidity constantly between 45% and 55% to prevent tension in the wood. Instruments are stored in secured areas.
We offer free storage for up to 14 days after completion and notification. Please organize collection within this timeframe, as our storage capacity is limited.
We assume responsibility for the instrument from the moment of handover until collection. Details regarding liability and insurance coverage can be found in our Terms and Conditions.
Should an instrument not be collected beyond the 14-day period and we receive no response, we reserve the right to take further steps according to our business terms. However, we always strive to find a personal solution with the client first.
