Our History and Philosophy

The founding of Batsmanluno in 2012 grew from a desire to create a specialized hub for musicians in Styria who value precise technical tuning of their instruments. In our 65 m² workshop located at Jakominiplatz, we have established an environment where every instrument receives the necessary individual attention.

A central aspect of our work is the strict control of environmental conditions. Because wood is a living material that reacts to temperature and humidity, we maintain a constant relative humidity between 45% and 55% within our premises. This ensures that adjustments to bridges, soundboards, or fingerboards remain stable and are not compromised by seasonal fluctuations.

We operate on the principle of transparency: every diagnostic is performed thoroughly, and before we begin any repair or regulation, a detailed cost estimate is agreed upon with the client. Our goal is to optimize playability and ensure the longevity of the instrument without altering its original character.

The Expert Team

Behind every successful adjustment is specialized knowledge. Our team consists of three experts, each covering a specific area of instrument making and maintenance:

  • Johanna Bauer: As CEO and Master Luthier, she manages the workshop and specializes in the demanding maintenance and construction of bowed string instruments.
  • Andreas Mayer: Our specialist for guitar building and repair handles everything from precise fret polishing to complex setups for electric and acoustic guitars.
  • Elisabeth Auer: As an expert in wind instruments and maintenance, she ensures the technical integrity of woodwind and brass instruments, including pad replacement and sealing work.

How We Work

The process in our workshop is structured to ensure consistent quality. After receiving the instrument, we conduct an initial analysis. We document the current state and discuss the necessary steps with the musician. Whether it is a simple string cleaning or a complete fret replacement, we work with high-quality materials and proven tools.

Upon completion of the work, the client receives their instrument along with a report on the measures taken. We also provide individual care recommendations to optimize the intervals between maintenance visits. All photos on our website are illustrative and serve to visualize our working environment.
