Custom Instrument Build
The creation of a musical instrument is a dialogue between the musician, the material, and the craftsman. We translate your sonic visions into handcrafted precision.

An instrument tailored exactly to the anatomy of the hand and the sonic preferences of the player fundamentally changes how music is experienced. In our workshop in Graz, we combine traditional lutherie techniques with a modern understanding of ergonomics and acoustics. We do not produce mass-market goods; we create unique pieces designed to last for generations.
The custom build process is an intensive collaboration. From the selection of specific tonewoods to the final varnish, every step is jointly defined. Our primary focus is on the functional integrity of the instrument to ensure maximum expressive power and an intuitive playing experience for the musician.
The Path to Your Unique Instrument: The 4-Step Process
Sonic Analysis & Concept
In a detailed initial consultation, we analyze your requirements. What sonic character is desired? Which ergonomic adjustments are necessary? We create a comprehensive concept paper.
Material Selection
Together, we select the woods from our inventory. The density and grain of the wood significantly determine the resonance and visual appearance of your instrument.
Constructive Implementation
The actual construction takes place in precise stages: body build, neck construction, and the exact fitting of components. Intermediate steps are fully documented.
Fine-Tuning & Finish
After assembly, the final regulation follows. We ensure that the string height and intonation are perfectly aligned with your specific playing style.
Who is a Custom-Built Instrument For?
Our custom instruments are designed for musicians who have reached the limits of standard instruments. This includes professional artists requiring a specific tonal color for recordings, as well as conservatory students seeking an instrument that supports their technical development without being hindered by ergonomic flaws.
Collectors who value handcrafted origin and material purity will also find the right solution here. If you have specific requirements regarding fretboard width, scale length, or the overall weight distribution of the instrument, a custom build is the only way to fully satisfy these technical demands.
How the Collaboration in the Workshop Works
The work begins with a thorough diagnosis of your needs. We invite you to test various reference instruments in our workshop to narrow down the desired sound character. After the signing of the agreement and the definition of specifications, the construction phase begins.
Throughout the build, we keep you updated on the progress. We prioritize transparency: you receive insights into the chosen materials and the construction phases. Communication is frequent, ensuring that adjustments in the early stages can still be made without significant effort.
What You Should Prepare as a Client
To optimize the planning process, we ask that you consider the following points before your first appointment: Which musical styles dominate your playing? Are there physical characteristics (e.g., hand size) that must be taken into account? Do you have preferences regarding the woods or the visual design?
It is helpful to bring your current instrument to the consultation. This allows us to analyze what works with your current setup and where the deficits lie, which the new build should resolve. This forms the empirical basis for the new construction.
The Result: What You Receive
At the end of the process, we hand over a completed musical instrument that meets your specifications in every respect. Along with the instrument, you receive a detailed build report documenting all materials used, final dimensions, and the steps taken during construction.
Additionally, you receive specific recommendations for the care of your unique piece, as individually selected woods react differently to climatic fluctuations. We accompany you in the first few weeks after delivery with a free follow-up adjustment, as the wood often settles slightly after initial intensive use.
Timeframes and Delivery Dates
A handcrafted instrument requires time to mature. The actual construction time varies depending on complexity but generally ranges between six and twelve months. This time is necessary to allow the wood drying and the chemical processes of the varnishing to be carried out professionally.
We value quality over speed. An accelerated process would jeopardize the long-term stability of the instrument. We agree on a realistic delivery date at the beginning, which we strictly adhere to, provided no unforeseen material defects occur.
What is NOT Included in the Service
Important Notice on Materials: In accordance with international agreements and the protection of endangered species, we do not process materials from protected sources. This specifically includes ivory, Brazilian rosewood, or tortoiseshell, unless valid CITES documents are provided. We offer high-quality, sustainable alternatives instead.
It should also be noted that we specialize in acoustic and mechanical construction. The installation of complex electrical amplifier systems or the repair of external power supplies is not part of our instrument building. We focus exclusively on the craftsmanship of the instrument body.
Pricing and Value Added Tax

All prices mentioned on this page are guidelines for a standard configuration. Final billing is inclusive of the statutory VAT of 20%. For B2B customers, VAT is displayed in accordance with legal requirements.
